Every ten years, immediately following a United States Census, our United States and Florida Constitutions require the congressional and legislative districting lines to be redrawn. This redistricting process – known as reapportionment – will result in new maps and boundaries that determine geographic areas represented by particular elected offices.
By the 2012 primary elections, we will have brand new congressional, state senate and state legislative district lines all throughout Florida. Under the Florida Constitution, the Legislature is given the very serious task of drawing these district lines in compliance with federal and state law. Voting is our most precious right and it is critical that we make sure that all votes are meaningful and counted.
The Legislature is holding a series of public hearings on this subject and the one in our area will be held Monday, August 29 at Jefferson High School in Tampa.
